What feels like months ago now, we had a spell which actually felt like summer – blazing hot sun, blue skies and white fluffy clouds. Happily we spent it on the Suffolk coast, where we were attending the wedding of my lovely friends Kaye and Adrian. It was exactly the escape we needed – a couple of days of nothing but long beach walks and a big fun party.
The wedding was on the Benacre estate, which is a huge private estate just off the coast near Kessingland, and we spent an afternoon and a morning exploring the public parts of it as well as the beach.
It was really hot and poor Toto struggled a bit, especially as our hour-long loop we planned on the map turned out to be almost 4 hours! I was so glad I’d taken two bottles of water with us because we certainly didn’t find anywhere to get any. I ended up having to carry her for a while so she could cool down, poor thing. Pugs are definitely not fond of the heat.
The wedding itself was brilliant fun, with so many little personal touches, it inspired us to kick things up a gear with ours.
The following morning we had a much-needed brunch cooked by our good friends Jo and Rob, who understand our need for bucks fizz in the sunΒ of a post-party morning. My kind of people, Jo and Rob!
We followed brunch by a walk along the beach at Pakefield, admiring the colourful beach huts.
The dogs *may* have been treated to a “doggy cone” to share. For 50p, we had to find out what that was. Turns out it’s a small 99 with a dog biscuit instead of a Flake!
They were both ecstatic to have their very own ice cream, even if they did have to take it in turns to slurp at it.
A perfect weekend relaxing with friends in the sun. With everything going on right now it seems like it will be a long while before we can be so relaxed again, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Probably.
Have you got sun where you are now?
Gorgeous photography Anna. The field of yellow flowers too my breath away. Stay cool. it’s just as hot down here if not more.
Thank you Mary! Alas it has not actually been hot since that weekend! Today it is muggy and warm, but no sunshine to speak of. I do love the sun (in small doses, being the pale English girl that I am!) X
Looks like we had similar weather yay! Those doggy ice creams are the cutest π What a lovely part of the country to have a wedding too!
I am totally going to replicate these doggy ice creams one day. Because my dogs don’t love me enough yet! π x
Looks lovely. I thought I had explored most of coastal Suffolk but now find I am wrong! Going to make a beeline for Kessingland next time I visit.
Kessingland itself is pretty, once you walk away from the caravan park part of the beach, but I would definitely recommend the beach at Pakefield over Kessingland (the beach huts are all Pakefield). Enjoy! x
