Holidays and Travel

A Beautiful Beach Stroll at Seatown in Dorset

Things have been a little crazy here lately with the bathroom renovation in full swing (more on that next week) and we’ve hardly had any time to relax and just enjoy ourselves.

A few weeks ago though we headed down to Somerset to my parents’ to collect the dogs who had been on an extended holiday on the farm since the wedding (mainly because of honeymoon and so we could keep them out of the way during the worst of the building work).

We decided to take them for a walk on the beach at Seatown with my Mum and Dad, and my Auntie Jen who lives nearby. Seatown is a lovely little beach about 3 miles from Bridport on the Dorset coast, and it is probably the beach we spent most time on as children because my cousins lived there. And then when they were older, they both worked in the lovely award-winning pub, The Anchor Inn, so that was always a great excuse to pop down of an evening!

It was a perfect afternoon of relaxing and was the best antidote to all the busy lately. I do miss the sea living in West Yorkshire now – we must make the effort to go and visit some of the Yorkshire coast soon.

It was a chilly but bright sunny day, and our walk was bathed in that beautiful golden light you get before the sun goes down.

It was absolutely glorious, and whilst none of my photos are particularly great, being hastily snapped on my phone (Samsung S7 Edge if anyone is wondering – I was going to get the Galaxy Note 7, but…), I think they tell the story of the afternoon perfectly.

Billy and Toto were in their element, as was my Dad throwing tennis balls and sticks for them, and skimming rocks into the sea.

You can’t tell they’re sisters can you?! Zero discussion on outfits took place beforehand, yet…!

After the beach we all went back to Jen’s for a cup of tea and some biscuits. Jen is an amazing cook and has her own catering business, so I assumed the incredible salted caramel shortbread biscuits were homemade, so I asked her if they were just a standard shortbread recipe with caramel added. She said yes, and carried on chatting. Then the biscuits ran out, so she brought out the shop-bought box from the cupboard! She totally hadn’t realised I thought she had made them. Turns out – Morrisons make some seriously amazing salted caramel shortbread biscuits. Go buy them people – you will not be disappointed.

We couldn’t leave without feeding a few windfall apples to the donkeys.

Our drive home was beautiful too – picturesque landscapes with a pinky sky as the sun set, and the enormous supermoon hanging over it all. Sadly they refused to stop and let me take lots of photos of that but it’s a lovely memory anyway.

Did you grow up near the sea and still miss it? Maybe one day we will move closer…

Lovely walk on the beach. I would love to walk Festus on the beach, but it involves at least a 30min drive to the beach and we can’t be bothered in the mornings, so we go on our usual walk nearby.
The donkeys look so cute and very friendly. It must have been fun to feed them apples. 🙂

The donkeys are awesome. Believe it or not I have actually ridden them, but I was a bit thinner then! 🙂
It’s nice to have somewhere a bit further afield to make weekend dog walks more special. We don’t go to the beach every day when we are home, but it is so lovely when we do. We actually saw the most gorgeous Rottweiler on the beach that day which made me think of Festus. I think his owner was a photographer – he had a DSLR and the dog was just posing for him in a way I have never seen before – it was amazing! He wasn’t on a lead, he just sat and looked into the distance while the man photographed him, then he changed pose and did it again, it was fascinating to watch! x

Love that your mum and aunt magically coordinated! I grew up by the sea and am lucky enough to be writhing half an hour or so of it now. Not much beats a walk on the beach 🙂 I’d love to visit the Dorset coast someday!

I agree. I actually prefer beaches in winter (British beaches anyway) for blowing the cobwebs away in a way nowhere else can! The Dorset coast is my favourite, so varied and beautiful and so many pretty towns! I am lucky to have lived there. x
